Solar changing shape of electricity prices in Northern Europe

Solar changing shape of electricity prices in Northern Europe Rising volumes of photovoltaic project capacity are increasing the incidence of negative price periods for electricity-and changing the times of day when they occur. The latest EU electricity market report has confirmed the affect deeper penetration of solar is having on power prices. The Quarterly Report on European Electricity Markets for the final three months of last year noted the number of periods of negative electricity pricing doubled from 2019, to almost 1,600 such events. Anesco eyes 20MW solar farm in Derbyshire

Anesco has submitted a planning application for a 19.657MW Solar Farm in Amber Valley, Derbyshire. The site would have 36,720 ground-mount solar panels arranged along a racking system with a maximum height of 2.5m, at a fixed tilt of 15 degrees. The angle is specific to the site and based upon the topography and latitude, with the panels – which have a non-reflective material to ensure there is no glare – to face south. Panels will be laid out in east-west rows, with approximately 4-5.5m between each row across 37.902 hectares. The site will be configured with string inverters that can sit discretely on the rear of the ground mount frames.

Why Are Solar Projects Becoming More Expensive?

Why Are Solar Projects Becoming More Expensive? By Rystad Energy - Apr 14, 2021, 1:00 PM CDT The cost of building solar farms has been declining for several years, making solar power increasingly popular with projects of all sizes mushrooming around the world. The tide is now turning, however, as new utility PV projects are starting to become more expensive due to increasing costs for modules, shipping, and labor, a Rystad Energy report reveals. Rising commodity prices and shipping costs are eroding utility PV project margins, potentially leading to delays for developments nearing financial close. Modules account for the largest single capex item of utility PV projects, which means even modest changes in costs can lead to significant challenges for project economics.
